What should a caterer have on the menu

Home » What Should a Caterer Have on the Menu
Caterers usually have a variety of different plates and trays that they offer. Even with the assortment they offer, sometimes our mind is closed when choosing what to serve.

Who’s Coming?

Knowing your audience is important when planning the menu for your guests. Of course you have a basic idea of how many guests you are inviting. You also need to make sure that you will have enough for everyone.

Another thing to keep in mind is dietary plans. There are a lot of people that have different dietary needs. Yes, there are people that have allergies and there are others that just have different diets.

Appetizers

Depending on the type of event will determine the type of food you will want to serve. If it is an informal event you probably won’t be serving entire entrees. Most appetizers are finger foods. There are always the typical mini-sandwiches and dips, but maybe you might want to think about adding tacos or a Mediterranean type of snacks to change it up a little.

Going Traditional

Serving traditional entrees is almost always a sure shot with a crowd. A steak and potatoes plate is fairly common with most people when they attend an event and sometimes is almost expected. Something to consider though is to have a backup plan if there happens to be any vegetarians attending the event.

Be Unique

So maybe you don’t want to serve the same menu that everyone else does and want to mix it up a little. This is where you can actually theme the event. Fajitas, rice and a Mexican salad could give it that Mexican touch.

You can go Italian with different pastas. Baked ziti, chicken or eggplant parmesan and lasagna are always hits with the crowds. A bruschetta pasta or other pasta salad goes well with these entrees. Don’t forget the garlic bread.

You can even start off with a Greek salad and serve a lamb entrée. This would put a Mediterranean Theme to your event and offer unique food that most might never try on their own.

Beverages

This can be a tricky choice for some. To serve alcohol or not to serve alcohol, that is the question. If there will be a lot of minors, you might want to reconsider serving alcohol at your event. Maybe just serving wine could also cut down on the total consumption.
